Hi Friends! Iโ€™m Sarah and I am so elated that you are here!

I was set on a journey of growth and change after I lost my little brother, my partner in crime, on my 27th birthday in 2015. 

That loss allowed me to realize two things: 

  1. I had been living my life selfishly, concerned only with what was going to โ€œmake me happyโ€ 

  2. I needed to work on my heart and my mind in order to develop internal strength and become a person who could have impact on others

A mentor of mine told me that she believes we go through the valleys we do in order to become equipped to help others walk through those same valleys. Her words changed the way I looked at what I was experiencing in my life, and I got passionate about repairing my own heart so that I could share not only my struggles, but also the healing journey I went on with those whom it could benefit.

Sometimes the idea of personal growth and development can feel a bit fake or forced or โ€œhappy-clappyโ€. Something that makes one feel good but doesn't actually help them create lasting changeโ€ฆ 

โ€ฆ but it seems to me that developing personal fortitude doesnโ€™t need to be some elusive, existential, clouds-parting-above-you type of thing. Developing personally doesn't have to be so serious! We can have fun as we grow so that we enjoy the journey instead of being singularly focused on the outcome.

There are also many practical tools that help us to grow our mental toughness alongside our heart softnessโ€ฆthe juxtaposition that, in my experience, makes up the character of someone who has fortitude. 

My hope is that I can share these practical tools along with my own stories of overcoming in order to bring value to your journey. That you will find community through vulnerability here at the Fortitude Project. That you will find a friend or two who have walked through the same valley as you. And that you will discover that no matter where your life has taken you, you are worthy and capable of developing extreme fortitude through small everyday choices.
